Herbal Cure for Diabetes
Medicinal scientists in India have been able to establish that a traditional
ayurvedic drug can be useful in the treatment of diabetes. Ironically, the
finding of this herbal cure for diabetes is by researchers who practice a
modern system of medicine. The dosage of the drug has also been worked out and
plans are underway for marketing. The extract known as Vijayasar is extracted
from the bark of a tree called a marsupium. This is used traditionally for
treating diabetes. The drug that is used is found in the Mekal Hills in Madhya
Pradesh, India.
Research had been conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Newly-diagnosed, or untreated diabetes patients in the 35-60 age group were
asked to participate in the study. 223 patients were admitted for therapy but
only 93 were followed up for the complete course. The blood sugar level in 63
out of the 93 individuals could be controlled. A research paper was then
published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research stating that Vijayasar
had a significant therapeutic effect in terms of lowering the blood glucose
level in diabetes patients.
